Invitation to Youth Worker Forum: Next Steps on the Road to a Tobacco Free Generation

THE IRISH CANCER SOCIETY, supported by the National Youth Council of Ireland with funding from the HSE, are bringing youth and community workers together for a discussion and planning forum to THINK BIG about engaging and supporting young people and youth organisations in working towards a tobacco free generation.

Where? : The F2 Centre, 3 Reuben Plaza, Rialto, Dublin 8

When? : Thursday 30th November 2017, 10:30am to 3.30pm

Who is it for? : Youth and community workers that are currently working with young people aged 12-24 in out of school youth groups or early school leaver programmes. This forum is for you if your organisation is interested in the health and wellbeing of young people and if you believe in giving young people a say on issues that affect their lives at local and national level.

What's it about?: Young people and their supporters have a massive role to play in driving the movement towards a tobacco free generation. Through their participation in the Irish Cancer Society X-HALE initiative, over 225 youth organisations have already taken the lead on raising awareness and driving change in communities where smoking is an issue.

This forum is a chance for you and your organisation to be part of the next step on the road Ireland's first tobacco free generation. To share your knowledge, learn from the experiences of other youth workers and to support young people in shaping the next step in a bigger process. You are the experts on engaging and empowering young people... we need you on board to take it to the next level!

Purpose of the Forum:

  • To discuss the broad range of issues that are connected to tobacco use and map out how working together towards a tobacco free generation connects with our organisations' strategies and priorities and the national strategies and policies that guide our work

  • To share opinions about the resources, structures, and networks that are needed to engage and support youth organisations, youth workers and young people in advocating for a tobacco free generation at local, regional and national policy level.

  • To plan the best way to engage young people in the next step of the journey. The Irish Cancer Society are planning a Youth Forum in May 2018 and we want to support interested young people that you work with to play a meaningful role in planning and facilitating the event. With your support, we can give young people a platform to have their say on working towards a tobacco free generation so that they can influence policy and strategy at all levels going forward.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT TRAVEL COSTS WILL BE COVERED WITH A VALID TICKET AND COMPLETED BANK DETAILS/EXPENSES FORM. FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED.

Spread the Word: Please share this invitation with your youth and community worker colleagues, contacts or networks via facebook or email.

Deadline for registration: Wednesday 29th November 2017
